Areas of Expertise

Back to Health Chiropractic & Wellness has a wide range of massage specialties available to create individualized treatment options for patients. We offer the best massage therapists in the Winona area who specialize in the following different techniques. Please review the treatments as you decide what you are looking for in your massage therapy experience.

Swedish

The goal of Swedish Massage is to provide whole body health and energy through a series of gentle strokes that promote general relaxation, improved lymphatic & blood circulation. These strokes include effleurage (long, gliding strokes), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (various tapping movements to stimulate the tissue), friction, vibration, and joint movement.

Deep Tissue

Patients that experience chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders often see beneficial results from deep tissue massage. This treatment focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue through a slower and more pressure focused style than classic massage. The movement is slow and the pressure is deep and concentrated on areas of tension and pain. The goal of deep tissue massage is to physically break down adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement to the affected area.

Pregnancy Massage

Massage therapy is considered by different studies to help expecting mothers reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health. Swedish massage focuses on a variety of discomforts associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone shifts during pregnancy. This makes it the recommended prenatal massage method during pregnancy.

Sports Massage

From weekend warriors to fitness pros, sport massage is a great way to help maintain physical health and get you back into the game. Back to Health Chiropractic & Wellness has worked on many of Winona and surrounding area athletes with exceptional performance results. Sports massage helps improve muscle flexibility and blood circulation to help reduce swelling, repair damage once an injury has been sustained, and prevent injuries from occurring.

Myokinesthetics

The goal of MyoKinesthetics is to create a body in balance. This is done so by finding the cause of postural abnormalities or imbalances and clearing all of the compensations that a body makes for them. The MyoKinesthetic System alleviates pain, restores function and movement, improves balance and posture, and resets the body while clearing compensations. We achieve the body’s balance by stimulating each muscle along an individual nerve pathway to allow the nerve endings to send signals to the brain for change.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a therapeutic method that stimulates predefined pressure points on the feet and hands to help reduce & relieve pain. Using controlled pressure helps alleviates the source of the discomfort. Reflexology can be the right solution for relieving pain in the absence of any particular malady or abnormality. This method helps promote good health, prevents illness & relieves symptoms of stress, injury, and illness.

Trigger Point

Trigger point therapy, also referred to as Myotherapy or Neuromuscular Therapy, breaks cycles of spasm and pain by applying concentrated pressure to the affected “trigger points.” on the body. Because they are hyperirritable nodules that cause pain and dysfunction in joint mobility, trigger points will cause a pain response that can radiate to other areas when pressure is applied to them. While most commonly found in muscle tissue, trigger points may also be located They are most often located in scar tissue, skin tissue, joint capsules, ligaments, and fascia. The body has several different types of trigger points and a large number of common trigger points align at the site of known acupuncture points.

While there a variety of treatment options to deactivate or alleviate trigger points, massage therapy typically uses ischemic compression. This is sustained deep pressure on the trigger point that may cause a tolerable pain that will diminish as the trigger point releases. The therapist will often gently stretch the muscle after the trigger point has been released. When considering trigger point therapy, it is important to be open with your therapist about your pain levels and when you feel the pain diminish.
